about
The character of Dr. Ray Barnett is a doctor, portrayed by actor Shane West, on the hit NBC medical drama ER. He first appeared in the fall of 2004 at the start of the show's 11th season. Although a talented doctor, he would sometimes rather be playing in his band than treating patients. At one time, Ray got himself into a sticky situation with Zoe Butler, who unknown to Ray, was only 14 years old.
In season 12, Ray's band got an offer to go on tour to promote themselves. Not willing to let this opportunity pass, Ray asked Dr. Weaver for time off. Eventually she gave in but as is turned out, his bandmates kicked him out of the band, feeling that he was too committed to his job at the hospital.
Meanwhile, Ray had fallen in love with his then roommate and fellow colleague, Dr. Neela Rasgotra. At the time, Neela was still married to Dr. Michael Gallant, who spent most of his time away fighting in the Iraq War. After realizing Ray's feelings, Neela moved out but still remained good friends with him. Since Gallant's death, Ray attempted to become closer to Neela and to help her cope with the unexpected and tragic loss of her husband. Proving unsuccessful, Ray had a fling with Neela's medical student Katie, after finding out that Neela started a relationship with the new arrival Tony Gates. At the discovery of finding out that Tony might be a father instead of an uncle to the now orphaned child Sarah, Neela has been relying more on Ray.
